ASOY serves students from all nationalities and religious groups The American School of Yaounde was founded in 1964 primarily for children of American diplomats in Yaounde and now serves students from all nationalities, languages and religious groups.

The school is an independent, secular, non-profit, co-educational day and boarding school that provides an American college preparatory education to children from nursery through 12th grade.
